The Arts allow citizens to express themselves creatively, if not physically, in ways that don't always involve taking to the streets in marches or other protests. The Arts allow us to express our First Amendment rights, and if you haven't read the First Amendment, that means every American, and not just Americans of one faith or one race, can and will freely speak out against the government, regardless of the party majority. People protested the last administration, people are protesting the current administration, and if there is another administration after this one, people will protest the next one, too. I have to exercise my right to speak out about the kind of governmental changes the USA is currently experiencing.
The First Amendment also says there will be no national religion, so I don't want to hear anything about how banning Muslims is necessary because this is "a Christian nation." It's not. There is no national religion, and if there ever is, it'll be under a Fascist government. People always shoot down the idea that America is a democracy by saying, "No, it's a republic." If recent trends remain unchallenged, it won't even be that anymore. The President wants to build walls around our borders and ban refugees. This goes against the Constitution, the Statue of Liberty's famous tablet, and yes, The Holy Bible. That last fact is probably the most staggering, considering that VP Pence pulled in a lot of the Christian morality votes, even though the Presidential nominee was obviously not a Christian. Divorced twice, reportedly cheated on his first two wives with his last two wives, respectively... It's disgusting that this threat to global liberty is being supported by so-called Christians. Absolutely disgraceful. Christ Himself was a refugee as a baby. Christmas was just over a month ago, and people are so quick to forget Him.
If you choose to stop visiting my site, or choose not to buy my books, or choose to unfollow me on social media... that's your right. We all have a right to choose now, regardless of how long that right may remain. If I do lose followers/fans (I doubt I have any fans at this point), I'm sorry to have alienated any readers. But I damn well shall RESIST. It's my right. And if you don't believe that, you're in denial.
This country is still free, and will continue to be free as long as we, who have known freedom, fight for it. I'm not much of a fighter. I'm an artist... and not much of an artist, at that. My idea of protest is to write a story about a totalitarian government coming to an end... or the rising threat of one in an attempt to raise awareness about how our civil liberties are being taken away. But like I said... the President is restricting media and The Arts, so... if my right to do that is taken away, I guess I'll have to find a new way to protest. #SorryNotSorry #DumpTrump #RESIST
