"I am the rain, and
You're made of suede,
So we can never be together
Again."
I like the rhymes. It's the same basic thing that gave Paul Simon the idea for "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover," only, you know... his is better.
Then came a cold day, and Amazon had a deal on a book called A Midwinter's Tale. I was immediately inspired to write the following random haiku:
"A Midwinter's Tale?
More like A Midwinter, Stale.
See what I did there?"
I have a talent for haiku. Unfortunately, unless you're monster haiku master Ryan Mecum, there's not much of a market for it. Still, it's nice be talented at something!
Finally, an Easter haiku. This past Easter Sunday, just before we had to cancel our plans and rush to the hospital (everything seems fine for now, so no need for concern), I noticed a lot of different posts about the holiday. Half were about the Easter Bunny and his eggs (always an odd combination, in my opinion), and the other half about Jesus Christ's Resurrection. I was like, Can't we all just get along? So I came up with the following haiku, which wound up on my social media before I'm transcribing it here:
"Eggs vs. the cross;
Peeps or Christ's resurrection?
Easter divides us."
Short and sweet... of course, that could be said of almost any haiku.
As for the story/novella idea (haven't decided yet, and won't know for sure until I've actually started writing it), I've been reading a lot of space/alien SF lately. Seeing The Force Awakens back in December really put me in that mood, and it hasn't lifted. Soon I'll own the movie and can watch it whenever I want to.
ANYWAY, I read some classic space exploration stories from way back before space travel was possible, and I wanted to write something like that. Of course, now that SF has become actual science, it's almost impossible to write something fresh from the POV of humans with no idea how to build a spaceship, unless I do like an alternate universe, or set it in a different time period. I thought up a way... but I'm not going to divulge the info here, otherwise I'll most likely never write it, and someone might steal it. Reading/pondering that classic SF is my experience, and I don't want to be cheated out of the possibilities that the experience has afforded me. So... I'm going to start writing it soon, even though I have hundreds of unfinished/lost stories that I have to finish/rewrite. I think this story takes precedence. It might be published... by someone willing to pay for it. In an age of e-publishing, I seem to have forgotten that people are still willing to spend money to make money. We'll see what happens!
