One idea that occurred to me was to... "be inspired by" (steal from) a friend of mine who also happens to be a writer and English professor, F. Simon Grant. He posts excerpts from his novels to social media regularly, along with an original artistic picture to catch his readers' eye. It works, and I'm considering it. BUT... if I did that, I'd have to post it here on the blog first, as Facebook is a wretched hive of scum and villainy.
Another idea, one I'm working on now, is to revisit an exercise from January 2012 or so, where I write a 30-word story every day for a whole month. I've already started, so I think I'm gonna run with that.
I had considered sharpening up some by editing previous novels so that I can self-publish them on Smashwords.com, like The Odic Touch and my two self-published short story/novella collections, Halloween Tales and Now, Dasher. BUT... I'm concerned that if I throw myself into editing, I'll lose interest and let the new idea fall to the wayside. So, I'll probably put that off until May at LEAST.
So those are my options. I'll see what I come up with!
