2016 News:
12/20/2016 - Happy birthday to my mother! Also, I shared a guest post from recoverywell.org. Check it out on the blog.
12/12/2016 - A couple of announcements to make today. I get the idea that nobody really reads the news updates on the homepage, so I'll post them in my blog. Check it out!
12/09/2016 - It's time to promote my Christmas work, and I've been too sick the past week to do so. I did manage to come up with two (as-yet-unwritten) new Christmas stories, and I put up my personal tree on my bedroom desk. It's a Justice League tree. I'll post pics in a bit, along with a little song (well, one verse) about it. Happy Holidays!
11/29/2016 - Well, I survived another Thanksgiving, though this year's wasn't very enjoyable. Too much politics at the table! I'm thankful it's over. I'm also thankful I was able to go out on Black Friday without incident. Prayers to OSU, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, and anyone else who needs them. Not much else to add. There's a Cyber Monday poem in the blog archives, so I'll just leave that here: http://www.royhudson.com/a-blog-custom-made-for-a-daydreaming-roy/thanksgivingblack-friday-have-come-and-gone-all-thats-left-this-week-is-cyber-monday
10/28/2016 - Tomorrow is Halloween Comic Fest, which I'm actually looking forward to more than Halloween itself. Be that as it may, I've created another $0.99 Smashword coupon for Halloween Tales that expires on All Souls Day, November 2nd, with code HX23C.
Get yours today at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/96714!
I've also re-uploaded The Odic Touch to Amazon with a price tag of $4.99. Because of the price on there, I've raised it on Smashwords from $2.99 to $4.99, BUT... I created a coupon for readers to get The Odic Touch for $1.99 until 12/31/16 with code VF77Z!
Get yours today at https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/82282
10/22/2016 - Nine days until Halloween. The coupon code to get Halloween Tales for $0.99 has expired, but it's still only $1.99 on Smashwords.com, or if you'd rather buy on Amazon, here: https://www.amazon.com/Halloween-Tales-Roy-Hudson-ebook/dp/B00NHZK1AO/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8
I also wrote a new almost-Halloween haiku today. This one requires a bit of explanation. Last night, my sister and I watched The Real Story of Halloween, and it talked about how the original scary holiday for the Roman pagans was Lemuria, on May 13th. In order to convert pagans to Christianity, the Catholic Church changed Lemuria to All Hallows/Saints Day. Once the pagan festival was forgotten, the Church moved All Hallows/Saints Day to November 1st, the day after the pagan new year, Samhain. I think we dodged a bullet. Can you imagine if Halloween was May 12th? It would be too hot to get dressed up! All the makeup would melt 30 minutes after application! Finally, I used the name of the scary summertime horror holiday from Disney's Gravity Falls to finish the following haiku:
"May 13th was All
Hallows Day first. Glad that changed.
Summerween? Hell no."
10/12/2016 - From now until Halloween, for the first 50 purchases, you can get The Odic Touch for only $0.99 with coupon code BP38A! Here's the link to where you can buy The Odic Touch with that coupon for $2 off:
https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/82282
10/06/2016 - Happy National Poetry Day! I've been sharing Random Haiku on my Facebook and Twitter accounts, and I just wrote a limerick to plug Relic. I should do a sales pitch haiku, so it'll fit in 140 characters... Check out my blog, I'm sharing today's works there. I may edit/update the blog entry through the day, depending on how much I write today... which probably won't be much more. We'll see!
10/04/2016 - I could've sworn I'd already posted this update, but... until 10/21, you can get my Octoberful collection, Halloween Tales, for just $0.99 on https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/96714 with coupon code JC93U! Also, from now until the same date, you can get The Odic Touch on Smashwords for $1.49 with coupon code ZU69E! The sale on Odic Touch is limited to the first 100 takers, so get yours for half-price while they last! https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/82282
9/26/2016 - Great news! I found a LOT of old writing I thought I'd lost when my old external hard drive died. Not-so-great news... They were all saved in MS Works files, so I had to open them in Notepad. Decent news: I was able to "select all," "copy," "create a new Word document," and "paste" the contents of all the files. The only bad thing about that, though, is that the conversion to Notepad added a lot of unnecessary symbols, spaces between letters, and blank pages. I was up late Saturday night trying to remove all that junk. I may have given up for now, but I'll finish eventually. Most of the documents are novels I started but never finished. Or, as is the case with most of them, started but never got even 50 pages in. And if the idea bed has gone dry, maybe I can rework what I already have written into shorts or novellas. We'll see.
9/20/2016 - After over three years of its being unpublished, I've decided to bring back The Odic Touch. It's available for every format on Smashwords. Keep in mind, I haven't done much editing to it since unpublishing it in 2013, and I've made no progress on the sequel in just as many years, but interest in the book on Facebook convinced me to give my readers another chance to get it. So, check it out! $2.99 on https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/82282.
9/10/2016 - One week ago, I was in Atlanta for Dragon Con! No, I wasn't a vendor. I went for fun, and I had plenty of it. I also took several writing workshops. The workshops were the only panels I attended. I went to meet writers, see and get pictures of great cosplay, get signed comics, and spend about $300. Mission accomplished on all counts! Maybe, if I can put out another book between now and next summer, I'll get a vending table for Dragon Con 2017. It probably wouldn't be as fun, but if I can generate some sales, why not? Besides... I don't have to vend the ENTIRE time I'm there. I can take some time to take in the sights and buy more art. But first and foremost, I have to MAKE more art. Last night, I wrote an 18-word short story. I'm hesitant to share it here, however, as one of the presenters last weekend advised against it. I'll figure something out. In the meantime, check out the new blog. I'm playing ketchup today...
8/09/2016 - I'm feeling introspective. Yesterday marked my great-grandfather's 113th birthday. July 25th marked the 26th anniversary of his death. I think I'll write a short memoir-type essay about him today... and also, my birthday, which is the day after tomorrow. I'll be 37. I've become largely indifferent of the idea of aging, so I just look at them as an excuse to receive cards/gifts/money from family and close friends. ;-)
7/07/2016 - It's the tenth anniversary of Syd Barrett's death, so I shared a Pink Floyd-themed haiku suite on my blog, which I wrote for Dark Side of the Moon's 40th anniversary.
This year also marks Roald Dahl's 100th birthday, so I'd like to write a tribute to him. I've got about five months until the year's end. Knowing myself, I can say with some certainty that if I don't write it today while the 100-year birthday is fresh in my mind, I'll put it off until December and wind up forgetting all about it. So... I'll have to start thinking of some sort of tribute.
5/30/2016 - Happy Memorial Day, USA fans and friends! I wrote a new story for the occasion. It's not perfect, and I admit I'm a little rusty when it comes to writing stuff other than haiku, but I hope you enjoy, and remember the reason we celebrate Memorial Day.
5/17/2016 - The new Fox TV series Houdini & Doyle, as well as the recently-canceled ABC series Castle, have inspired a new story idea. It's a thriller/satire about a crime writer teaming up with an eccentric crime-solver, and I thought of a way to make it unique... and, as always, if you steal my idea, I'll glare at you SO hard.
I also started a kids' book that started as a fable about accepting LGBTQ youths, but wound up being about being true to oneself, no matter how much opposition one meets. There is a transgender character, but also a few other... different folks. I don't want to give away any more, except to say that it's a sequel of sorts to a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. As soon as I finish, I'll self-publish and post the link here.
4/26/2016 - Happy Alien Day! In honor of the date from the famous film Alien, I'm scouring my past works for alien stories I haven't blogged in the past. For one thing, I only found one alien story in the archives, and to post it on Alien Day would be to spoil the ending. Anyway, I'm off to find an appropriate story!
3/29/2016 - It's been a creative week, in spite of a few family emergencies. I wrote a couple of haiku for both a cold day in March and Easter, but haven't had time to put them down in the blog. So... I'm adding them now, though they're a bit late. Spring is now under way here, and Easter is over. Oh, well. They'll be there in the blog archives for NEXT year!
3/19/2016 - I haven't written anything of note since getting my Kindle Fire Tablet for Christmas. I've been spending time away from the computer, even though I hate trying to type on the tablet, even with a stylus. I've got a couple new political poems, though. I try to stay away from politics, so as to not alienate half my potential readers... but one Presidential candidate cries out to be the subject of my writing.
I've also been neglecting this site again after getting the tablet. Every time that happens, I say I'll try to keep up with the site better, but that's almost never the case. We'll see, though.
1/10/2016 - Last night I went to Augusta's own Poison Peach Film Festival 2016. There was an announcement that every third Tuesday of the month, the Southeastern Filmmakers' Guild (Augusta GA chapter) meets downtown to discuss/brainstorm upcoming films. I'd like to search my files and see if I have a marketable screenplay to suggest. There's not much money in these films, but if I can get my name out there as a screenwriter, that's all that matters. I'll keep y'all posted.
1/7/2016 - It's a week into 2016, and I'm just now updating. Belated happy New Year! Then again, I haven't updated since around Christmas 2015, and this is the first new post... and 2016 is still pretty new. So... Happy New Year! There's a new blog about my New Year's week in review. Check it out.
2015 News:
12/28/2015-It's almost New Year's Eve, and since I missed my chance to write a new Christmas story, I might focus my efforts on writing a new story/poem for New Year's. In the meantime, I'm reposting the NYE story from January 2015 in my blog. I have to get the creative juices flowing... Maybe I'll go through my 2015 jar and see what all happened this year (that I wrote down) for inspiration. In the meantime... Happy New Year!
12/24/2015-Merry Christmas! I've not had the time to write an original Christmas story (or poem) this year, but I've been sharing the old ones on Facebook/Twitter. Go through the blog archives using the "A Blog Custom-Made for a Daydreaming Roy" link above, and look at my past December entries. And if that's not enough, you can find Now, Dasher on Amazon Kindle Unlimited, or also available to buy. I was planning to use CreateSpace to make it available for paperback in time for the holidays, but procrastination won out. Now... I have a whole year to get it ready! ;-)
12/10/2015-So this is strange, but... I just found out that Now, Dasher is available for free via Kindle Unlimited. I say "just found out," but the truth is that I just forgot that I applied for it. Or, rather, that must be the truth. My memory isn't what it used to be. So yeah, if you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited (or even if you're eligible for the free trial), I hope you check out my vampire Santa book. Enjoy!
Also, happy Chanukah to those who celebrate it! I wrote a clean limerick (yes, such a thing exists) in my blog. There's also another blog entry before it that offers a little surprise to those who take the time to read it. Oh, and it features that Dasher Christmas card photo I spoke of in an earlier post. Seeing me as a vampire Santa is all the incentive you need.
11/14/2015-Belated happy Veterans Day. I hate to include that in a bummer post, but... Thoughts and prayers to the Paris victims and their families.
09/30/2015-It's been a while.... again. However, I've decided to do something new for 2016; something I plan to start as soon as I can find the time. If you click above on "30-word stories," you'll notice some comic strips I'd drawn in the past. Well, I'm thinking of starting that on a regular basis. Agama Con is occurring in March, and I'd like to build myself up as an artist for that; as you can see from the strips linked above, I'm not that good... but there are a lot of crappy-to-average artists who have made it as web comic artists, so it's like my haiku motto goes:
If Bob Dylan can
rhyme "orphanages" with "sons
of bitches," why not?
05/16/2015-Well, I just found out that Relic is now available for free via Kindle Unlimited with membership, so if you are a member, check it out here.
04/08/2015- Well, I'm not doing such a good job of keeping my website updated this year. We're in the fourth month and this is just my third update. Also, I'm a tad behind on the Story-A-Week project but fortunately, I'd written two stories or more a couple weeks in January and February, so by the year's end, I should still have 52 stories; although, some of these "stories" are less shorts and more jokes. I reread some of those and thought, "I could get a job writing for late-night TV." That's not really my chosen path, but I do enjoy writing humor; it's rare, but it does happen.
02/04/2015- We've already started the second month of the year and I am pleased to say that I am currently caught up on the Story-A-Week 2015 project. If only all new years resolutions were this easy to keep!
01/01/2015- Happy New Year! I am pleased to say that I got the year right on the first try. A friend/fellow writer, Jessica McHugh, spent 2014 writing a new story every week. It inspired me to try to do the same this year. I may or may not publish all the stories in my blog... but if I write one that I find fitting for a holiday or other seasonal occasion, I might share it. 52 weeks... That's a lot of stories. If I can do that, I can start considering myself a full-time writer again. Here's hoping!
December 2014: 12/30/2014- I hope everyone had a happy holiday season. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, so in case I don't edit the page between now and then, Happy New Year! May 2015 be the best year yet... even if there is no Back to the Future Part II technology introduced next year.
12/22/2014- I wrote a new Christmas poem last week, which I posted to my blog, along with a Christmas song I wrote last night. Just so you know, both are naughty. I don't know why I'm not feeling the spirit of Christmas this year, but the negativity got me writing again, for which I'm thankful.
12/03/2014-... Wow. It's been about 8 months since I last updated my web site. I apologize, and since I just paid for another year of this domain, I won't let it go to waste. It's too late (I guess) to promote my Halloween books, but now it's time to pimp my Christmas book: Now, Dasher: The Saga of a Vampire Santa Claus. It's not currently available on Smashwords, because I added it to the Kindle library exclusively. Promotional thing, hopefully it'll generate more sales between now and Boxing Day... We'll see. If you're curious to own it for your own Kindle, the link is here:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QIT2DJS. Enjoy, and Happy Holidays!
February 2014: 02/17/2014-Happy Presidents' Day! I realize I didn't update with a Valentine's Day post, and for that I apologize. It just slipped my mind. I did write a haiku for each holiday (kind of), and they're both on the blog. Check them out!
January 2014: 01/20/2014-I still haven't gotten my computer fixed, which is why I haven't updated since the third. I have a new idea for a novel that has been simmering in my brain for the past week. I've been waking up before anyone else in the house lately, and if that continues, I'll be sure to start writing the new story, as I can't get much done in this area without being distracted by family or pets. Just know that ideas are still coming.
01/03/2014-Happy New Year! Sorry I haven't had a chance to say it before now. My PC died, so my updating will be sparse until I get a new computer. I also wanted to say that 12/31/2013 was the anniversary of my registering the royhudson.com domain! I'm pretty excited about that. I may write something for the occasion, but don't count on it.
December 2013: 12/22/2013- With Christmas Eve two days away, I made a new Smashwords coupon: Now, Dasher is only 99c with code TD89T until 1/1/14. You can read all but the final story in my blog archives, under December 2011... I think. Here's the Smashwords link: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/261927
12/07/2013- I just posted a new Buck Owens-inspired Christmas story in the blog. Check it out! I hope you enjoy it.
And Black Friday- http://www.royhudson.com/2/post/2012/11/gross-materialism-a-thanksgivingblack-friday-story.html
There's also a Cyber Monday poem in the blog as of today. Hope you enjoy!
November 2013: 11/30/2013- In honor of the now-past Thanksgiving and Black Friday, here are a couple of links to my blog from last year: Thanksgiving- http://www.royhudson.com/2/post/2012/11/thanksgiving-inspired-writing.html
11/11/2013- In honor of Veterans Day, I've posted an appropriate excerpt from Now, Dasher to my blog. I hope you enjoy it.
October 2013: 10/31/2013- HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Remember, Relic and Halloween Tales are available as ebooks for $2.99 and 99 cents respectively, and Relic is available in paperback for $7.99 or less! Since today is All Hallows Read, you can give one of these books to a loved one today, while the stories are still relevant this year.
10/6- Today is Mad Hatter Day, so be sure to read my Gotham-inspired Mad Hatter poem from February of 2012: http://www.royhudson.com/2/post/2012/02/new-poem-inspired-by-the-augusta-region-wri-mos-group.html
September 2013: 09/17/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Since Halloween is next month, I've made Halloween Tales free until September 30th with coupon code ZZ37Z (not case-sensitive).
August 2013: 08/12/2013 NEWS UPDATE: In recognition of my birthday (yesterday, 8/11), I'm giving YOU a gift! Til 8/18, Halloween Tales is FREE w/ code MC77V on Smashwords! https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/96714
July 2013: 07/04/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Happy American Independence Day! To mark the occasion, I posted an appropriate excerpt from Now, Dasher in my blog.
June 2013: 06/22/2013: Happy Flash Fiction Day! There are two new flash stories on the blog.
06/03/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Happy birthday to my dad! Also, today marks day one of my publicity week. I'll be posting a lot of Relic stuff this week on my social media sites. Yesterday I gave away two review copies, so hopefully I'll get some new sales from those reviews.
May 2013: 5/10/2013 NEWS UPDATE: To celebrate having exceeded 600 followers on Twitter and thank them all for their follows, I've posted a new story about Twitter. It's an ironic choice to be sure, but how often do I get the opportunity to share a story about social media on social media? Enjoy!
5/05/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Happy Cinco de Mayo. I missed saying, 'May the Fourth be with you' by one day. I wrote some flash fiction for each occasion, and you may read it on my blog.
April 2013: 4/22/NEWS UPDATE: It's CISPA Protest Day, so I'm avoiding Google, Facebook, and Twitter so that at least my social media pages are 'on blackout,' even though I feel the need to update my blog today. I recommend avoiding social media to others, as well, but since nobody reads this site and I forgot to mention it last night on my Facebook author page, it's not going to do a lot of good to say so here.
4/18/2013 NEWS UPDATE: I've been sick for the past week, so my writing has taken quite the pummeling. To make up for it, I've posted a short story that was rejected today in the blog. Check it out, if you feel like reading something that's, in my opinion, truly awful. hehe
4/07/2013 NEWS UPDATE: I've been adding some stuff to the site today, such as Google AdSense, links to Facebook and Twitter links, and moving stuff around in general. I'd like to add a mailing list, but have no clue how to go about doing that without updating to Weebly Pro.
4/01/2013 NEWS UPDATE: 'Happy' April Fools Day. I hate this pseudo-holiday. It combines the worst parts of St. Patrick's Day (pinching if one isn't wearing green) and Halloween ('tricks') and slaps them at the beginning of spring when my allergies are killer. Oh well. I posted an old April Fools flash fiction story in the blog. Hope you enjoy it.
March 2013: 03/31/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Happy Easter! I posted a story for Easter in the blog. Originally, it had nothing to do with Easter, but I saw an opening and took advantage. Enjoy.
03/24/2013 NEWS UPDATE: To commemorate The Dark Side of the Moon's 40th anniversary today, I shared my haiku suite 'Program Music' on social media (#DarkSide40), found here: http://www.royhudson.com/2/post/2011/10/program-music-a-haiku-tribute-to-pink-floyd.html
03/21/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Yesterday was Extraterrestrial Abduction Day, and now today is World Poetry Day! To mark the occasion, I wrote 7 new haiku... one of them mentions 3/20 being Alien Abduction Day. You can find those in the blog.
03/20/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Evidently, 3/20 is Extraterrestrial Abduction Day, so I shared my story 'God of the Sea' on the blog. It's not a very obvious choice, but by the end it makes sense!
03/14/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Boy, I was way off. National Flash Fiction Day is June 22nd! It's a good thing I procrastinated posting all my flash pieces!
03/09.2013 NEWS UPDATE: Since National Flash Fiction Day is in March, I'm celebrating all month long (starting today) by sharing my flash fiction in the blog. Check out my latest short short story today!
03/02/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Yesterday at The Book Tavern, I picked up 6 copies of Relic to sign and sell online. Cover price is $7.99, +$3 shipping in the US ($10 shipping to Canada; $15 shipping to the UK). I'd have to calculate shipping to other countries, but I am willing to ship outside the US. Paypal is the best way to buy one. If interested, shoot me a message on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/royhudsonauthor.
February 2013: Looks like I accidentally deleted all the news from February. Oops. Sorry!
January 2013: 01/14/2013 NEWS UPDATE: I will be participating in the Next Big Thing blog hop on Wednesday, 01/23/2013. Be sure to show up for my answers to their questions!
01/09/2013 NEWS UPDATE: I posted my writing resolutions for 2013 in the blog. I wrote them for a contest, but I wasn't expecting to win... Its prize is a trip to South Africa, something I'd most likely turn down, anyway. I just saw the guidelines and felt inspired to write!
01/06/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Yesterday, I set up a signing for Relic at The Book Tavern for Friday, 02/01/2013, from 7-9 p.m. The Book Tavern is located at 1026 Broad Street, in Augusta GA. If you'll be in the area that night, be sure to swing by for a signed copy of the novel! I hope to see you there.
01/04/2013 NEWS UPDATE: I went out and got a yearly planner for 2013 so that I can keep up with my writing life throughout the year. I also thought I'd use this opportunity to share my Amazon page link:
http://www.amazon.com/Roy-Hudson/e/B005PF2PSA/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1357297983&sr=1-2-ent
And while I'm sharing store links... http://www.cafepress.com/authorroyhudsonsstore Happy shopping!
01/03/2013 NEWS UPDATE: Bad news. I wasn't writing at midnight 12/31, so it may not be a very productive year. The good news is that I've got enough ideas in my little idea notebook to be a primer for days when I do feel motivated to write. Only problem is, the idea notebook was a 2012 planner that allowed me to keep track of when I did what in my writing life over the last year. I must go out today and buy one for 2013!
December 2012: 12/30/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Out with the old, in with the new. I just registered my own domain, RoyHudson.com! The site will look the same, and will redirect from the old address, but it's a new domain and I love it. Happy New Year!
12/28/2012 NEWS UPDATE: As a belated Christmas present to me from me, I will be buying the domain for my own site minus the "dot-weebly" bit. It's easier to be seen as a real author if the domain name looks professional, so I'll grab that while I can. It's finally time to take this writing-as-a-career thing seriously.
12/25/2012: Merry Christmas! Remember, today's your last chance to get Now, Dasher for 99 cents via Smashwords with coupon code VJ22Q. https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/261927.
12/19/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I read about how theft of the baby Jesus is a common Christmas crime, so I wrote a new story about it, which is now in the blog.
12/18/2012 NEWS UPDATE: With one week until Christmas (and just a few days until the supposed Apocalypse Day), I've made The Dasher Saga a coupon for 50% off. Until 11:59p.m. on Christmas Day (12/25), with code VJ22Q (not case sensitive), the complete serial novel is only 99 cents! Get yours at: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/261927.
12/04/2012 NEWS UPDATE: It's that time of year again; Christmas time! Whether you celebrate or not, there's no denying that Santa Claus is a major icon in December. And since it's December, it means I'll bring back my vampire Santa, Nick Dasher. However, since 2012 is the last year of the saga, I've decided to sell the entire collection on Smashwords.com. Here's the link where you can buy it for only $1.99: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/261927
12/01/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I just got back to Augusta, GA, yesterday. I'm setting up a signing at The Book Tavern (1066 Broad St. is the address, I think... if not, it's very close). My schedule is flexible, so the signing may be somewhere around 12/15 if the owner/manager approves that date. There's been some difficulty getting in touch with everyone involved (the bookstore, my publisher), but hopefully we'll get it worked out with plenty of time to spare. I'll keep you updated.
November 2012: 11/22/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Happy Thanksgiving, American fans! I'm thankful for my publisher, Firefly & Wisp, and the wonderful writer friends I've made since I've been aboard; my readers, without whom my writing would be for naught; my wonderful girlfriend, who helps me make it through tough days; my family, who has always supported me, and whom I will miss very much on this holiday of mass eating; and friends who have always been there through thick and thin.
To mark the holiday, I posted a new story, "Gross Materialism," to my blog. It's about Black Friday, though it takes place on Thanksgiving. I hope you check it out and enjoy it. To those of you outside of the U.S. of A., maybe this will give you a taste of what happens every year on the day after Thanksgiving... or, sometimes, the week leading up to that day. In other news today, I've got some Thanksgiving stuff to share in my blog. Check it out.
11/14/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I have a new compilation in the works; a sort of sequel to Halloween Tales called A Fall of 18 Stories. I had wanted to limit it to 13, but there's a few new ones I'd like to write (or rewrite) and include. I have already written one new story, a Halloween tale that takes place in September. I would like these stories to be spread throughout the autumnal season. They cover a return to public school, the anniversary of Poe's death, Halloween, Election Day, Thanksgiving, and there's a Veterans Day excerpt from my Christmas series...
11/13/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I have recently taken a job as an editor for a friend of mine working on a collection of essays, and received half of the agreed-upon fee in advance. It's been over a decade since I've edited someone else's work for submission, so wish me luck.
In honor of the job, I have written a couplet: "Editing for friends' publication, yay!/This is how I actually earn some pay."

10/01/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Last night was the release party for Relic, and I think it was pretty successful. You can buy the e-book here: http://www.amazon.com/Relic-ebook/dp/B009JFKOUI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349058035&sr=8-1&keywords=roy+hudson+relic and here: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/240516. It will soon be available in paperback as well. And remember, the unedited first chapter is available to read for free in my blog!
September 2012:9/27/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Upon reaching 525 Facebook likes, I made Halloween Tales free with coupon code ZT33P on smashwords.com. Code expires Sunday, 9/30, which incidentally is also the day of Relic's release and Day 1 of Banned Books Week. Not sure how to take that. hehe
Also, upon reaching 500 twitter followers, I'm posting the first chapter of Relic here on my blog (BlogRoy, in the tabs above). Check it out.
09/19/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I wrote the blurb, dedication, and acknowledgements for Relic yesterday. I posted those in the blog, along with my superhero short, and a Haiku I composed yesterday.
09/11/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Please share: I'm posting Relic's 1st chapter for free once I have 500 followers on http://www.twitter.com/RoyHudsonI (only need 21 more) and making Halloween Tales free at 525 fans on http://facebook.com/royhudsonauthor (only need 3 more!)
09/08/2012 NEWS UPDATES:
1. Relic has a new release date! 9/30/2012. This works, as the majority of the action occurs during October.
2. I have been getting ideas for new stories (shorts, mostly) and wrote two recently. I'll share the link to the e-zine featuring "A Comic Book We'll Never See" as soon as I'm certain it's available to the public... and, you know, I get the link again, since I've forgotten it. The other short has been available on my blog since 8/27. If you haven't thus far, check it out.
August 2012:
08/27/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Another new story, another flash-fic. It's not about any particular candidate, or any particular election, for that matter. I just thought it would be fun to play with words and the often-manipulative nature of the press. It's in a new blog.
08/26/2012 NEWS UPDATE(S): 1. First and foremost, the coupon code for a free Halloween Tales expired last night, but if I get 12 more Facebook followers (for a total of 550), I'll make another one. It will be free again.
2. I wrote a new story yesterday and submitted it this morning to an e-zine. If it's published, I'll share the link here. I won't post the story itself as a blog... Not yet, anyway. It's not even two full double-spaced pages, but I've been told it's effective. I don't like calling any of my work "fan-fic," but... this kind of is. It's about an unnamed superhero and three reporters, Lois, Jimmy, and an unnamed co-worker who grew up on a farm. I think that's familiar enough to get the point across, but innocuous enough to avoid a lawsuit, don't you?
08/18/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Upon reaching 450 Twitter followers today, I have made Halloween Tales free on Smashwords, https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/96714 with coupon code VK24N from now until next Saturday, 8/25, one week from today. Get some!
08/12/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Happy belated birthday to me! Check out my new blog, all about it.
08/03/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I've decided to relocate for the sake of both my relationship and my writing career. I'm moving to my girlfriend's town to be closer to both her and the promotional events set up by my publisher. Hopefully the move will be sometime in October.
Also, I'm doing my damnedest to be in Lexington KY next month (9/28-9/30) for Scare Fest. We'll see how that works out!
July 2012: 07/18/2012 NEWS UPDATE: For the past several days, I've been editing old WIPs. I've got 46 of 148pp. (thus far) remaining in the Odic Touch sequel. I'm hoping that editing what I have so far will inspire me to finish writing it. Sadly, I wrote an outline for the last half or so, which means in my mind it's kinda "finished," so I don't really want to finish. I have to break that horrible habit.
07/13/2012 NEWS UPDATE #2: I kept my word and wrote an essay about a Friday the 13th six years ago... it's on my blog. Check it out!
07/13/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Yesterday, Facebook group Addicted to Books posted an interview with me on their page, which I have copied and pasted into my blog. Check it out!
Also, it has occurred to me that even though I've written on most holidays and occasions (everything from Halloween, Father's Day, April Fool's Day, and Christmas to 9/11, 2012's proposed Apocalypse Day, and even National Tooth Fairy Day), I don't think I have anything for Friday the 13th. As today is Friday the 13th, I'll try to come up with something, even if it's just a Haiku. If not... apologies in advance, but I do have bronchitis and the occasional fever, so my creative brain has been a bit clogged lately. We'll see what I can produce today, if anything.
07/02/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Time for a bit of personal news... I'm now in a loving relationship with a fellow author, which has never happened before but is great news for the future of our respective careers. If you remember the story/novel prologue "Three Strikes," I've been talking to my new love and we're going to collaborate on the novel. She writes erotica and I write horror, so I suppose one would be able to call this story a paranormal romance... with a dark twist. Fans of Twilight and other books of its ilk will probably hate our story, which is fine by me! We can't wait to get started on this project. Of course, I still have to finish The Odic Touch sequel and several others. She's going to motivate me, though; I just know it.
Speaking of The Odic Touch, I decided in Ohio to submit it to my publisher because I'm lazy and would rather they edit it than me.
June 2012: 06/27/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I have returned from the Akron Comic Con, and have posted a new blog all about my trip. Check it out.
06/21/2012 NEWS UPDATE: This week, my guest post about the late, great Ray Bradbury is available on http://mysticthoughts-xc.blogspot.com/2012/06/bradbury-91-by-roy-hudson.html. I already posted a blog on the subject on my blog, but this is a different one.
Also, today is the day I leave for conventions in Ohio this weekend! From Firefly & Wisp's release: "We will be at Summerfest in Garretsville, Ohio, on Friday June 22, and Saturday the 23. On Sunday the 24th, we will be at the Chapparelle Center in Akron Ohio at the Akron Canton Comic Convention. Come see us! We will have loads of books, bookmarks, and other items to purchase!" If you live in Ohio, come on out and support us (and get signed books and stuff)!
06/16/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Happy Father's Day to all the fathers. Today I updated the Relic cover art in the image above. Also, a new blog post.
06/12/2012 NEWS UPDATE: After finishing the Relic edits Thursday afternoon, I became a bit depressed about feeling that I had nothing to do; I needed a task. I decided yesterday what that task should be: finishing the Odic Touch sequel. However, last night at bedtime, I had an idea for a new story. I wrote the working title and first line down in my writing planner. I don't think it will be a novel (especially since I don't really have an actual plot yet, only the characters), but I need to at least start it before I return to any other projects. More in the blog.
Also, I wrote a Father's Day poem for my dad today. I'll post that in the blog, too.
06/07/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Upon learning of Ray Bradbury's death, I took a brief hiatus from the computer, which is why I'm late with my mentioning it here. R.I.P. to a true innovator in speculative fiction. I wrote some Haiku as a tribute (perhaps a strange choice, but writing is writing), which I have submitted in a guest post to Firefly & Wisp's blog. I'll post a couple of them in my blog, along with a poem or two of his, to better express my gratitude.
06/06/2012 NEWS UPDATE: The first draft of the Relic book cover is above. It needs a few touch-ups but I really like it!
06/04/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I saw an early draft of a cover for Relic last week and loved it. Whether it's the final draft or not is yet to be determined. I also received the edits on Friday, 06/01, and posted a new blog today. Check it out!
May 2012: 05/31/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Just received word today that I will get the Relic edits this weekend so that I can go over them and make sure it's all good. I'm pretty excited about it!
05/26/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Two things happened earlier this week. First of all, I received via mail a World War Z poster, which I won for writing a Zombie Survival Tip. (Pic posted in the blog.)
Second, I discovered an anthology called Ever Afters, accepting romance/erotica novella submissions (20K-40K words) featuring twisted fairy tales re-written to contain zombies. More on that in the blog.
05/22/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I learned last night that May is Short Story Month. It is fitting, then, that I just finished reading a "novel" made up of and expanding upon several previously published Ray Bradbury short stories and have now started The Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard. As for my own work, I submitted a book of short stories to Firefly & Wisp last week; the same collection that I gave the lovely Sue Hudson for Mother's Day. That means that I honored the month's occasion without even realizing it. Today I shall post as a blog the most recent short story; it works as a standalone, though I intend to expand it as the prologue to a novel. Hope you enjoy it.
05/16/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Happy Flash Fiction Day to the UK! To help celebrate, I will post on my blog the three flashfics I submitted to FlashFlood, the official e-zine of National Flash Fiction Day (all of which were rejected, but it doesn't bother me much, as long as they are read). Also, there's the flashfic from January available to read under the "30-word stories" tab above. Enjoy!
05/15/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I will indeed be appearing at Akron OH's comic con on June 24th, as well as one of their bookstores for a signing the day prior. If you happen to be in the area and would like to purchase a Firefly & Wisp anthology signed by multiple contributors, feel free to stop by!
05/02/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Yesterday, I received my first Smashwords payment for funds earned via The Odic Touch and Halloween Tales sales. I want to thank everyone who bought a copy of one or the other, or perhaps both!
April 2012: 4/26/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Attention Ohio-area readers... Looks like Roy Hudson will be at a bookstore signing and convention in Akron this June, after all. See the blog for more details..
4/14/2012 NEWS UPDATE: I've been alerted that Amazon has corrected A Thorn of Death so that "No More Room in Hell" now appears in the e-book.
4/9/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Sadly, I found out that A Thorn of Death is missing my story. The title's there, but it's followed by two blank pages. My editor, Firefly & Wisp's Danielle Zwissler, is looking into the error. Hopefully there haven't been many people who bought the book and couldn't read my story.
4/7/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Great news! In case you didn't notice, I changed the above release date of Relic from December to October, as I found out last night that Firefly & Wisp is ahead of schedule.
March 2012: 3/19/2012 NEWS UPDATE: The two bookmarks have been posted on the Facebook author page. You can save and print them, but if you want to save your ink or don't have photo paper, you can buy a copy of Halloween Tales for $0.99 and Roy will mail you one (or both). There will also be contests using them as prizes in the near-future... as soon as we figure out how to make it work.
3/18/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Thorn of Death is now available! Get your copy via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Smashwords.com.
3/15/2012 NEWS UPDATE 2: Two days until the release of Firefly & Wisp's Thorn of Death, featuring Roy Hudson's story, "No More Room in Hell." Be sure to get a copy via Amazon or Smashwords.
3/15/2012 NEWS UPDATE: As promised, The Odic Touch has been unpublished; however, Halloween Tales is still available for only $0.99. Hopefully 4 more copies sell before Smashwords.com's pay period deadline...
3/10/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Five days left until I un-publish The Odic Touch. Remember, if you buy it, I'll be able to afford to make the bookmarks I designed the other day. Hm. Maybe I should use that to sweeten the deal. If you buy The Odic Touch (or Halloween Tales, since it's cheaper and I'm a good sport), drop me a note letting me know where to mail it, and I'll send you a free bookmark. There are two designs so far, but I may come up with more. I might as well let the cat out of the bag; while designing the bookmarks, I came up with that dorky one-liner that I added to the header image. If you didn't notice it before, look for it now. =) So yeah, buy a Roy Hudson book and you could receive a bookmark with an example of my geeky sense of humor on it. Message me on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/royhudsonauthor) after you buy an ebook and tell me you want one. I'll get an email from Smashwords to alert me of a sale, so be honest! =P For as little as 99 cents you could have me pay for the postage to send a bookmark your way. Sounds like a win-win to me.
3/8/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Today's the last day for Smashwords code XK29F (to get The Odic Touch for $1.50). The novel will be unpublished in one week, so if you have not yet downloaded a copy, now's the most opportune time to do so.
3/3/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Roy submitted Take Only as Directed to Firefly & Wisp on 2/28/12, so we've removed the other sample chapter from the site.
February 2012:
2/27/2012 NEWS UPDATE: In response to Paypal's censorship of indie e-books, there's a new blog (and picture, also seen above). There's also a blog from Friday, 2/24, a new poem. Check it out.
2/15/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Oops. We've gotten slack and missed the opportunity to post the "anti-Valentine's Day" trailer for Halloween Tales before Valentine's Day was over! Oh well... here it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuYHrhVtwoM&feature=g-upl&context=G2fa2f8fAUAAAAAAAAAA
2/07/2012 NEWS UPDATE: This week, Firefly & Wisp is hyping Dawn Jayne's Uprising (available here: http://www.amazon.com/Uprising-ebook/dp/B00726BA4A/ref=sr_1_11?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1328643365&sr=1-11). F&W's Faebook page reached 1500 fans over the weekend and, to celebrate, was giving copies of their books away on Facebook. I won a copy of Uprising, a dark novel of angels, and look forward to reading it. Buy your own this week, only $2.99 for Kindle!
2/06/2012 NEWS UPDATE 2: Roy here. I've posted a new blog asking my readers to help me decide on the next book project between Flashing Lights and Take Only as Directed. See sample chapters linked above.
2/06/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Roy has decided to pull The Odic Touch (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/82282) in March to make some more edits, but first needs to sell a few more copies before Smashwords' first quarter ends. Or, if you'd rather wait until the edits have been made, you can buy Halloween Tales (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/96714)for $0.99. Combat Single Awareness Day next week by reading about Roy's favorite spooky holiday!
2/05/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Fantastic news! Firefly & Wisp has been approved for distribution by Penguin/Putnam! Relic will be available in hardcover, and likely in Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million stores! Happy happy, Roy Roy! :D
2/04/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Roy here; This has nothing to do with my writing, but trust me, I'll find a way to make it relevant for sharing here... I'm posting about fellow author John Scalzi's brilliant drive for donations to Planned Parenthood after Susan G Komen's withdrawal of funding for breast cancer screening and education (and subsequent too-little-too-late apology after all the backlash from the public). Basically, throughout the first week of February (which only gives you a few more days), when US residents buy Scalzi's Subterranean Press e-books, both Scalzi and SubPress will donate the proceeds to Planned Parenthood. I felt it was a good reason to buy one of his books, even though it brought the dollar amount in my bank account down to a single digit. The blog post (which I'll link below) has links to lists of the eligible titles for both Kindle and Nook. I personally bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fooling-Anyone-Laptop-Coffee-ebook/dp/B0050C69ZI/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1328360133&sr=1-1 ; You're Not Fooling Anyone When You Take Your Laptop to a Coffee Shop: Scalzi on Writing. (See? I bought a book on writing. It's relevant!) Please be aware that this is a collection of blogs on writing from Scalzi's Whatever blog collected from the years 2001-06, which I didn't know before buying, but which ultimately makes no difference to me. I probably still would have bought it, if for no other reason than to donate to Planned Parenthood's breast cancer awareness programs. Here's the direct link to his blog post: http://whatever.scalzi.com/2012/02/01/ebooks-for-breast-cancer-screening-and-education.
2/02/2012 NEWS UPDATE 2: Two reviews up today: http://books4linda.blogspot.com/2012/02/odic-touch-thieves-of-odic-force.html by Heidi Angell, and http://fireflywisppublishing.blogspot.com/2012/02/odic-touch.html by Danielle Zwissler at Firefly & Wisp. The latter is positive, the former is middle-ground. hehe Oh well, 3 stars is better than 2, and much better than 1!
2/02/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Roy here... For the weekend, Firefly & Wisp has me promoting Lee Taylor's erotic novel Bound, available for $2.99 here: http://www.amazon.com/Bound-Unleashed-ebook/dp/B005REX6K0/ref=pd_sim_kinc_5?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2
2/01/2012 NEWS UPDATE 3: Brand new trailer for The Odic Touch is up now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPVtBI1Zfs0&feature=youtu.be
2/01/2012 NEWS UPDATE 2: Don't forget, today on Angela Scott's blog, Whimsy Writing and Reading (http://whimsywritingandreading.weebly.com/2/post/2012/02/i-try-to-be-a-plotter-but-most-of-the-time-my-plans-dont-work-out-roy-hudson-author-of-the-odic-touch-interview.html), an interview with Roy is now available! Check it out.
2/01/2012 NEWS UPDATE:For those of us who are single this February and would rather read horror than romance, Roy has made Halloween Tales available again for $0.99 on Smashwords; https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/96714
January 2012:
1/31/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Tomorrow (2/01/2012), be sure to check Angela Scott's blog, Whimsy, Writing, and Reading, for an interview with Roy Hudson. Here's the link: http://whimsywritingandreading.weebly.com/
1/30/2012 NEWS UPDATE 2: This week Roy's publisher, Firefly & Wisp is promoting TC Lee's erotic novel, Assume the Position. Only $2.99 on Amazon, or free to Prime members. If you're into erotica, check it out! http://www.amazon.com/Assume-Position-Darker-Side-ebook/dp/B006NPVTC4/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1326038471&sr=1-1
1/30/2012 NEWS UPDATE 1: Today marks the end of Underneath the Juniper Tree's 30 Days 30 Words 30 Stories, and Roy is now completely caught up and finished, thanks to a drawing titled, "If Twilight Were Realistic." Check it out on the 30-word stories page. =)
1/29/2012 NEWS UPDATE: The Odic Touch trailer #2 is in the works. See BlogRoy for the text; and for those of you who had trouble reading the first trailer's text, that is included as well.
1/28/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Brand new trailer for The Odic Touch! Better late than never, right? ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFMSGqQ-yYE&feature=share

1/20/2012 NEWS UPDATE 2: Upon reaching 300 Facebook fans, Roy generated a Smashwords coupon code making The Odic Touch free for a week (until 1/28). The code is NQ68L and the novel can be found HERE: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/82282
1/20/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Stick a fork in SOPA/PIPA, they are done. Yesterday's flash fiction is now one of those sci-fi alternate-universe stories. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. :-D
1/19/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Congrats on yesterday's protest, everyone. But, just to keep the momentum going, I've added a new blog post with some flash fiction about the possibilities of a future with internet penalties for copyright infringement. It sucks, but check it out, anyway. And keep the anti-censorship wave going!
1/18/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Roy here. The blackout code didn't work, but I still urge everyone to tell their Congress representatives to fight SOPA & PIPA, they both strive to censor the Internet. As the owner of intellectual property (stories, drawings), I know copyright infringement is a big deal, but censorship is not the way to protect against it. If you like something you see on this site, by all means, link it, share it, and tell people where they can find more: right here. This is an example of an artist GIVING PERMISSION for his fans to share. As long as you don't pass it off as your own, I'm cool with it. But if SOPA or PIPA passes, I won't even have that option. FIGHT IT!
1/17/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Planning to black out to protest SOPA tomorrow, 1/18. I pasted the code, but am not sure if it will work. Contact your Congressmen tomorrow and be sure to let them know how awful the Stop Online Piracy Act really is. It's all about censorship, something that the Bill of Rights is supposed to protect us against. FIGHT IT!
1/13/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Great news! Firefly & Wisp will be releasing Roy's novel, Relic, near the end of 2012!
1/09/2012 UPDATE: Yesterday a new page was added specifically for January's 30 Words 30 Days 30 Stories works. #1-9 are now available, with more to follow.
1/07/2012 UPDATE: New blog and newly added image of the cover art to Firefly & Wisp's zombie anthology The Thorn of Death, featuring Roy Hudson's "No More Room in Hell."
1/06/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Roy just found out that one of his zombie tales has been accepted into another Firefly & Wisp anthology!
1/04/2012 NEWS UPDATE: After discovering Under The Juniper Tree's "30 Words 30 Days 30 Stories" project, Roy has spent most of his morning whipping up four 30-word stories to get caught up with the month thus far! Read them on the blog.
1/01/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Happy New Year, everyone! As promised, Roy changed the price of The Odic Touch to $2.99 today, but once he reaches 300 fans on https://www.facebook.com/royhudsonauthor , the book will be available for free again for a limited time.
December 2011: 12/26/2011 NEWS UPDATE: Hoping everyone had a merry Christmas and has a happy New Year!
12/24/2011 NEWS UPDATE: Merry Christmas Eve! Roy has posted a stand-alone short story to his Facebook page, due to the difficulty of formatting from Word to BlogRoy. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=223512657724425 Enjoy!
12/23/2011 NEWS UPDATE: Merry Christmas Eve Eve! ;-) Roy has posted this year's new Dasher story (#12) on his blog. Because #13 is now finished, he is considering submitting it for traditional publication for next Christmas. More on that as it unfolds.
12/21/2011 NEWS UPDATE: Dasher stories 8-11 are now available on the blog (in addition to the previous seven), leaving only #12 for this year. Roy may post an additional Christmas story before the holiday has passed, if he has the time. A death in the family yesterday may slow things down. Please send positive thoughts, prayers, or energy toward Roy's family in this time.

10/19/2011 NEWS UPDATE: After noticing a lack of significant response to his "realistic urban fantasy," Roy Hudson has decided to change the genre listing of The Odic Touch from Urban Fantasy to Thriller. Hopefully the novel (and, in the future, the series) will find a larger following in the suspense genre. This change will probably take place within the next few days. Stay tuned.

Enjoy, and have a great day!
11/20/2012 NEWS UPDATE: With just a few days until Black Friday, I thought I'd take this moment to pimp out some stuff I have for sale that would make cool holiday gifts!
Here's my CafePress store, where you can find Relic merchandise: http://www.cafepress.com/authorroyhudsonsstore
And here's the Amazon link to the paperback: http://www.amazon.com/Relic-Roy-Hudson/dp/0615723594/ref=sr_1_1_title_1_pap?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1353418045&sr=1-1&keywords=roy+hudson
Only $7.99 for the paperback, and it's eligible for FREE super saver shipping. You can't beat that with a stick!
11/01/2012 NEWS UPDATE: Today is Relic's paperback release party on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/events/547001801993121/551144444912190/?comment_id=551205401572761&ref=notif¬if_t=event_mall_reply#!/events/547001801993121/

FIGHT IT!
