If they’re like the Hellboy II
tooth fairies, gun up.
2. "Unconventional"
describes my father, Victor...
as does "mad doctor."
3. What is deja vu?
Is it seeing the future?
What is deja vu?
4. World Poetry Day,
for me, means writing haiku.
Like this, for instance.
5. March 20th was
Alien Abduction Day.
I’m still Earthbound. Sigh.
6. Favorite ’80s
movie quotes: “Chopper, sic balls;”
“Death by stereo.”
7. Bradbury and Dahl
changed their books for the movies.
Don’t try to top them!
Footnotes:
1. This was written because the last haiku I wrote was on Tooth Fairy Day; it was about how I lost the Tooth Fairy Day haiku from 2012. I needed a better one, even though I was over a month late. I figured, it's poetry day, so why not?
2. Inspired by Frankenstein, in case you couldn't tell.
3. I wanted to make a pun, but it doesn't seem like one because poetry is often repetitive... plus there's only 3 lines in a haiku, so it's difficult to capture a deja vu joke in that limited space.
4. I wanted to commemorate today with a 'World Poetry Day' haiku... so that's just what I did.
5. I wanted to (belatedly) commemorate Extraterrestrial Abduction Day, even though I was too lazy to do it yesterday. Actually the idea of writing an EAD haiku never occurred to me until after I wrote the WPD haiku. Like I said on my Facebook page last night, sometimes I forget I'm a writer.
6. I noticed that 'Death by stereo' is 5 syllables and wondered how I could make that Lost Boys quote work in a poem. This was what I came up with.
7. Two nights in a row, I saw people on Facebook talking about how much more loyal to Roald Dahl's Charlie & The Chocolate Factory Tim Burton's movie was. I had to point out both times that evidently Roald Dahl wanted the movie to be different, because he wrote the screenplay for Willy Wonka. It's too late for that remake to be prevented, but since Ray Bradbury also wrote a screenplay that was different from the book (Something Wicked This Way Comes), it's not too late to preserve that film's vision. Leave it alone, Hollywood!
I wrote 7 haiku today... That's the most prolific I've been in months. I hope tomorrow features some other occasion I need to mark by writing!
