So I was thinking of forming a comic book style team for writers that can march in next year's DragonCon parade (or maybe even go to an honest-to-God Comic-Con if convenient). After all, the best costumes at those cons (in my opinion, anyway) are the comic book-inspired ones. So, why not create a super team of editors/writers who want to better the world by promoting proper use of the English language!? We could have badass superhero versions of "mundane" occupations that further the language: The English Teacher, The Librarian, The Editor... or come up with really snazzy names, like Homophone Man or Grammar Girl or Captain Punctuation. I've got dibs on "The Misspelling Avenger" (and use that persona on a day-to-day basis). In fact... let me go design my costume right now!
I've been looking at The Augusta Chronicle's DragonCon photo gallery, and at the costumed groups in the parade. They have categories of costumes such as "The Atlanta Pirates & Wenches Guild" and "The Periodic Table" (no shit), but word nerds seem to be absent. I DID see one guy whom I thought was a Bananagram, but it turns out he was Potassium in the Periodic Table. Boo. hehe
