Captain William Sage walked into his office and looked at the shabby man before him. He let out a flustered breath. “Bobby Brinkley, what the hell are we gonna do with you?”
Bobby shifted in his seat. “You don’t understand, Captain. This time it was different.”
The captain laughed. “It was different, alright. The first time you called 911 from your cell, you were in the woods at the site of a car wreck. We asked what you were doing there, and you said the car had hit a werewolf. The driver of the car was dead, so we couldn’t question her about the cause of the accident. We couldn’t charge you with anything. Then the second time, you called from a nice house whose owners were out of town that night. What was it then?”
“I saw what I believed to be a UFO.”
“And it was the spotlight from a police helicopter. When we asked what you were doing there, you pled the fifth. You might as well have admitted to being there to rob the place.”
“I wasn’t.”
“We couldn’t charge you because you were outside the place when we found you and there was no sign of forced entry. The best we could’ve done was trespassing, but the owners never pressed charges.
“And then the next time,” the captain continued, “we found you in the alley behind a bank, calling to report that you had beaten the crooks with your fists until they disappeared into thin air. The crooks were never seen again. You hadn’t been seen inside during the robbery, and you turned in the loot, so we couldn’t charge you then, either.”
Bobby smirked. “But you suspect I was the lookout.”
“That’s three times, Bobby. And then tonight, you came in to say you had some evidence that a prominent citizen is a vampire. Werewolves, aliens, phantom bank robbers, and now vampires. Until now, I just thought you were the dumbest crook I’d ever met. Now I think you’ve got psychiatric problems. I’m going to call an expert to check you out.”
“Don’t touch the phone, Captain,” Bobby said. “I’m actually hear to confess my crimes.”
Captain Sage crossed his arms. “Very well. Let’s hear them.”
“I wasn’t at that house to rob it. I was there to kill the vampires that lived there.”
“You’re a vampire slayer now, is that it?”
“Not now, Captain. Always. The reason they never pressed charges is that they disintegrated into ash when I killed them, as did the bank robbers.”
“And the car accident? I suppose the driver was a vampire as well?”
“No. The car really did hit a werewolf; me.”
The captain laughed. “I was right to think you disturbed, Bobby. I’m calling the expert.”
As the captain reached for his phone, a hairy paw tipped with deadly claws slammed down on it and ripped it from its cord. Sage gulped as he looked at Bobby, still appearing normal except for his hand/paw. “I was partially telling the truth when I said I was here with evidence that a prominent citizen is a vampire, Captain. I know that Bart Draxton is a vampire; I also know that he is the expert you planned on calling. I know all about how you round up the vagrants from the drunk tank and take them to the Draxton residence for him and his horde to feed upon.”
Barely able to speak, Sage asked, “Partially telling the truth?”
Bobby smiled, revealing sharp fangs. “Yes. The other reason I’m here… is to kill you.”
Captain Sage reached for his gun, but he wasn’t as quick as the werewolf, which leapt across the desk and buried its massive jaws into the corrupt captain’s throat. The noise was drowned out by the ringing of phones outside the captain’s closed office door.
Once satisfied that his prey was dead, Bobby bounded through the window with a crash and disappeared into the shadows. The sound of the window smashing brought Captain Sage’s beautiful assistant into the office. She screamed at the bloody sight.

This story can stand alone, but I'm planning to expand it into a novel about a werewolf from a long line of vampire slayers teaming up with the vampire cop tracking him to fight a zombie invasion. I decided to do this to set the record straight on vampire/werewolf love triangles. (It doesn't end well for the female lead.) In my story, as in traditional lore, vampires use romance as a ruse to lure victims into their clutches, werewolves are generally the bane of vampires and lose all control under sway of the full moon (otherwise the werewolf in the above story is inspired by Underworld's Lycans, able to transform at will), and zombies are controlled by voodoo to do their master's bidding. The more I talk about it, the more excited I am to write it!
