But now I'm wondering what's next. Relic doesn't debut for about 10 months, but I still need to think about what to submit next. So, readers of my blog, I'll ask you the same question I asked Facebook to little response: Aliens, or zombies? I think I'll share a chapter from each (but keep in mind, they need editing before I actually submit them; I just need to make a decision on which one to work on) to give you a better idea of what you're voting for. And... I'll get right on that.
Last year, I asked my friends and fans on Facebook what my next Smashwords book should be, and offered the choice between Flashing Lights, about a visit from aliens, and Take Only as Directed, about a different type of zombie triggered by a terrorist attack. I got very few responses, but of those, the general consensus was zombies. However, without much success from self-publishing e-books, I decided to wait and submit a few works to what I felt were suitable publishers. I submitted Flashing Lights to one and was rejected after the entire manuscript had been requested (which in itself was a victory for me) and... Relic to Firefly & Wisp (we all know how that turned out).
