Program Music developed.
A story per suite.
Pink Floyd has plots, too.
“Shine On You Crazy Diamond”
tells of crazy Syd.
"Arnold Layne" came first,
A drag queen from the headlines.
Sounds like TMZ.
“Atom Heart Mother,”
“Al’s Psychedelic Breakfast”
were early ‘Programs.’
I guess, anyway.
They want storylines too much.
They're not very good.
"Seamus" is a dog
who howls along with the blues.
Alone, that's a plot.
“Echoes” is scary.
Parts are awesome, but the rest…
A drug trip gone bad.
Not that I would know.
I’ve never done any drugs.
…Okay, prescriptions.
And then there’s The Wall.
The whole album tells a tale.
I need not say more.
Same for Animals.
Waters channeled George Orwell
…in really long songs.
Well, “Pigs on the Wing”
isn’t so long, even though
it’s split into halves.
After The Wall came
another concept album;
a personal one.
Waters wrote a tale
based on truth, about his dad
and the War. It tanked.
With The Final Cut,
Waters said goodbye to Floyd.
But they kept going.
A Momentary
Lapse of Reason was decent
at best. No new tales.
Without their writer,
it seemed Floyd's book was finished.
But wait... here comes more.
The Division Bell
has a few good story arcs.
Bittersweet album.
“High Hopes” depresses,
like ‘Wearing The Inside Out”
by Rick Wright… since passed.
Live 8 saw the band
reunite for a good cause,
complete with Waters.
Sadly, Rick Wright died
before a tour could happen.
Still, the programs shine.
