Monday was creative in that I wrote about 300 words in the novel, PLUS three poems, a blog, and an interview was posted on fellow author Christine Cunningham's blog. (I would post the link, but it has since been replaced by an interview with a different author. Too bad I'm a slacker.) I'll contact Christine and see if I can copy and paste the interview onto this blog.
Tuesday wasn't particularly productive, but one day this week (my memory sucks), I added more to my new novel. A writing advice blog I read recently said it's a bad idea to open a novel with a character ruminating rather than with action, which makes sense, except that the first half of the new novel is a journal, and that's how it opens. (Even though there's only one paragraph of ruminating before the actual plot starts to spin, I didn't want to risk it.) So, I set up a prologue that also foreshadows part two, and there's action, but not without setting and character description. When writing, that's my biggest problem; I see the images in my head so clearly, it sometimes slips my mind that the reader doesn't have that image and needs it relayed in the story. Writing advice is often conflicting, but "show, don't tell" is always a big one, so even though I'm careful to keep the action moving in this novel, I also need to make sure the description is clear.
I need to go back to the NaNoWriMo website and update my word count even though I'm not really doing it anymore. I'll go do that now. More later...
